“We were first contacted by Madservice Kronjylland and Djurs Mad, two medium-sized Danish companies whose main business was catering meals for rest homes” Davide Pizzocaro, Area Manager for Northern Europe of Gruppo Fabbri explained. “This industry is enjoying rapid growth in Denmark and the two clients represented an entirely new market for us. The positive experience we enjoyed with them was a real success story that has allowed us to enter this market and serve, so to speak, an entire pool of small and medium sized companies in the same industry. Now we are doing business with this same industry in other countries as well and we can say, with good reason, that we are able to satisfy the needs of clients even in those areas.”
The main needs the client told us about were to be able to go from manual to automatic packaging, reducing packaging time, satisfying the need for increased production volume in the market and a method suitable to the wide variety of products that need to be packaged (in PP and multi-compartment PE trays), something which requires a quick and easy format change.
Not only, but foodstuffs with high liquid content like, for example, soups or soft desserts, come with their own series of problems as excessive acceleration or deceleration could make the product spill and compromise the efficiency of both the seal and the content.
“The solution could not be anything other than TopLid – Davide Pizzocaro continued – that allows you to manage your acceleration rate as the product is transported through the machine and the pressure of the gas injections as you see fit thanks to special programmes for packaging low density foodstuffs; which, among other things, also notably reduces the consumption of gas with certain applications.”
Not only, but thanks to the photocells, as a response to the need to make the line as compact as possible, we were able to place the fillers on the in-feed itself without any further need to synchronise.
The filler and the TopLid in-feed
TopLid can very efficiently manage the presence of more than one format and it takes less than four minutes for the mould change to take place, a minimum amount of time that has little or no impact on the hourly production stats of the machine. The compact size and light weight of the mould make it safe and easy to manoeuvre.
By trusting TopLid, these companies have reduced their production time and costs, while optimizing their lines. Compared to other machines in the same category, TopLid is more compact and the chance to eliminate the vacuum pump, which is not always the most efficient component for this type of application, has resulted in faster packaging and less energy consumption.
